Starburst Galaxy Slot - Netent

Head back out into space with the Starburst Galaxy slot, released in November 2024, and get a taste of zero gravity while stacking up wins in this cosmic game.

Twelve years after the popular Starburst came out in 2012, NetEnt (now owned by Evolution Gaming) invites us on an interstellar journey that seems to have slipped through the folds of time, as if we had been pulled into a wormhole. After Starburst XXXtreme gave us a nod a few years ago, here comes Starburst Galaxy, a version that shows just how easily time can fly by at the speed of light.

At first glance, you could almost believe nothing has really changed. The sparkling gem symbols are still here, and the emptiness of space still wraps us in its deep mystery. Yet behind the familiar look, Starburst Galaxy hides a complexity quite unlike its ancestor. The features have been expanded considerably, making for a far more elaborate game than the original, while keeping the cosmic atmosphere and the elegance that made the first title a success.

Technically, Starburst Galaxy is a Cluster Pays slot with medium to high volatility, an RTP of 96% and a win potential of up to 25,000x the bet. Played on a default grid of 5x5 reels, it has a feature generator that fills up as consecutive wins land and can trigger the Mega Star and Galaxy Star bonuses, along with plenty of other extras.

After setting your bet between 0.20 and 28 per spin, you need to form combinations of at least 3 identical symbols appearing vertically or horizontally on the grid to win. The coloured gemstone symbols can pay between 0.25x and 40x the bet depending on their colour and number, and then there are the 7 and the BAR, which can pay between 0.75x and 250x the bet as the game's high-paying symbols. Every win triggers a tumble: the winning symbols disappear from the reels while the remaining ones drop into the empty positions. Once all positions have been filled again, wins are evaluated once more, and the tumbles continue until there are no further wins.

As mentioned, unlike the original title, Starburst Galaxy comes with a lot of special features. On top of the tumbles, there are Wilds, a feature generator, a Galaxy Star, a galaxy meter, a Mega Star, a multiplier collect meter and feature buy options.

Wilds
When a winning combination without Wilds disappears from the grid, a Wild is placed at the centre of the combination that has just been removed. Wilds substitute for all symbols except the Scatter and can form combinations with other symbols whenever possible. When 3, 4 or 5 Wilds appear in a line and cannot form a winning combination with another symbol, the Wild pays as the highest winning combination.

Feature Generator
In the base game, each winning combination helps to fill the feature generator, and every 5 successive wins, one of the following features is activated:

- Destroy: Removes one or more symbol types at random.
- Random Wilds: Replaces 3 to 9 symbols on the reels with Wilds.
- Expanding Wilds: Turns every Wild symbol on the reels into 3 vertically stacked Wild symbols.
- Line Transform: Fills a row or a reel with a randomly selected symbol.
- Upgrade: Upgrades one or more random symbols of the same type on the reels into a higher-paying symbol.

When there are no wins on the reels, the awarded features start to activate one by one until a new win lands.

Galaxy Star Feature & Galaxy Meter
This feature is activated when the fifth feature in the Feature Generator is awarded. The play area expands to 7x7 reels and a Wild covering 3x3 positions is placed on the grid.

After wins are evaluated, all symbols disappear and 4 to 8 regular Wild symbols appear on the reels. When there are no winning combinations on the reels, all the features awarded in the Feature Generator are activated.

The Galaxy Meter is activated when a 3x3 Wild symbol appears on the reels. Each winning combination is added to the Galaxy Meter, and every time it reaches 50, the Galaxy Star feature is triggered.

Mega Star Feature & Multiplier Collect Meter
Each time you land 3 Scatters on the reels in a single spin, you trigger the Mega Star Feature. After the tumble, when there are no more wins on the reels, the feature activates and a Wild covering 2x2 positions is placed at random on the reels. Once wins are evaluated, all wins disappear and 2 to 5 Wilds are placed at random on the reels during the next tumble.

When the Mega Star feature activates, one or more Scatters may carry a multiplier of x2 to x25. The multipliers start the Multiplier Collect Meter, which shows all the multipliers added together and applied to every winning combination until the end of the bonus.

Elevate Feature
The game's features can be activated through these different bonus buy options:

- Bonus Boost: Increases the chances of reaching the Galaxy Star bonus for 3x the bet.
- Mega Star: Activates the Mega Star feature for 10x the bet.
- Boosted Mega Star: Activates the Mega Star and Multiplier Collect feature for 50x the bet.
- Galaxy Star: Guarantees access to the Galaxy Star feature for 100x the bet.
- Galaxy Star Bonanza: Starts the Galaxy Star feature with 5 features awarded in the generator and a random multiplier of 2x to 75x for 500x the bet.
