Ultimate Fire Link River Walk Slot - Light & Wonder

For the next addition to the Ultimate Fire Link series, the studio Light & Wonder takes players on a pleasant stroll along a river. You will find the Fire Link feature again, with four jackpot tiers and the option to pick between different volatility levels for the Free Games bonus. All of this happens in the Ultimate Fire Link River Walk slot, released in September 2023. Ready to take a closer look?

Peaceful at first glance, the game is set beside a canal, with a café terrace, flower pots, multicoloured parasols and tall trees in view. Across the water, pretty arched bridges and a marble footbridge give the place real charm. Beyond these background visuals, the Ultimate Fire Link RiverWalk slot takes a more western approach in its choice of symbols, while the Fire Link mechanic, built around collecting fireballs, and the various Free Spins options with multipliers bring more energy to the game and make for an interesting contrast.

Ultimate Fire Link RiverWalk is played on a grid of 5 reels and 4 rows with 50 paylines. Two RTP settings exist: one at 95.97%, like the version we are currently playing, and another at 94%. As for the volatility, it sits in the medium range. You can bet between 0.20 and 10 on each spin. A turbo mode also speeds up the pace of play, and you can switch it on at any time by clicking the lightning bolt at the bottom right of the grid.

To win prizes, you need to line up 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The paytable shows two types of paying symbols: the lower-paying ones, represented by the royals A, K, Q and J, which can return between 0.10 and 1 per spin. Then come the higher-paying ones, represented by the candle, the barrel, the belt, the cowboy hat, the boots and the cocktail, which pay between 0.30x and 20x the bet. The lotus flower candle also acts as the Wild and can substitute for all symbols except the Free Spins symbol and the fireball.

The calm setting can be shaken up at any moment by the Fire Link feature or by the Free Spins Bonus, both of which can also be activated through the Buy Pass feature. Each fireball displays a win value between 1x and 100x the bet, or the Mini, Minor and Major Jackpots, on rows 1 to 4 of the base game and on rows 1 to 7 of the Fire Link bonus. Row 8 offers values between 10x and 100x the total bet as well as the Mega Jackpot, on top of all the others.

Fire Link Feature
The Fire Link™ feature is triggered when 4 or more fireballs land anywhere on the grid in the base game. This activates the special feature and awards 3 respins. At the start of the mode, 8 rows are displayed and rows 1 to 4 are active. All the fireballs that trigger the feature are held for its entire duration. The more symbols are held, the more rows become active. If further fireballs land during the respins, they stay in place until the end of the bonus. In addition, each time a fireball lands on an active row, the number of remaining spins is reset to 3.

At the end of this feature, the player wins the values shown on all fireballs located on active rows. If all 40 positions are filled, no extra spins are awarded. An alternative set of reels is used during this feature, and only fireball symbols are taken into account. Rows are numbered starting from the lowest row.

Free Spins Bonus
The free spins feature can be triggered in the base game when "Free Spins" symbols land on reels 2, 3 and 4. This launches the free spins bonus, with an instant win worth 2 times the total bet. Once the bonus begins, the player picks one of the six bonus options on offer. You can choose between 5 and 20 Free Spins, with multiplier ranges running from 2x to 25x depending on the option. A random option is also available.

During this feature, a random multiplier drawn from the set of special multipliers is applied to all winning lines containing at least one lotus symbol. Also, if new Free Spins symbols land on reels 2, 3 and 4 during this bonus, they again award the same number of free spins as the initial trigger, along with a win of 2 times the total bet. A dedicated set of reels is used for this bonus, with the same winning combinations as in the base game, except for the fireball symbol, which does not appear.

Buy Pass
The Buy Pass™ feature gives direct access to the bonuses. The player can buy entry to the free spins bonus for 38.1 times the selected bet, or go straight to the Fire Link™ feature for 42 times the bet. This option cannot be used during Autoplay mode. The theoretical RTP for free spins bought through the Buy Pass is 96.05%, while that of the purchased Fire Link feature is 96.02%.

A promising sequel
The Ultimate Fire Link series takes us through a variety of original settings, and the RiverWalk version may appeal to players looking for some peace and quiet. That is only a front, however: behind this tranquil backdrop lies plenty of commotion, driven by the Fire Link feature and the Free Spins Bonus with its different multiplier levels.
