Having already done two stints at San Quentin with NoLimit City, the studio sends us back behind bars for a third time in the San Quentin Manhunt slot. We leave the prison yard floor to observe the whole scene from above, as if we had hijacked the warden's surveillance drone.
Many players have already experienced the prison world of San Quentin xWays and San Quentin 2 Death Row, and in April 2026, NLC treats you to the third episode of a series that has built a real following. Let's be honest — up here, you feel a lot safer than before, when you were down on the ground with the inmates, risking a shiv in the showers or a score to settle at meal time. Now you're comfortably perched above the yard as a simple observer... though you'll find the tension remains very much alive on the reels.
On the technical side, San Quentin Manhunt takes a step away from its predecessors by adopting a Scatter Pays system on a grid of 6 reels and 5 rows. The RTP climbs to 96.15%, volatility stays high, and the win potential reaches 46,532x the bet at maximum. Players can wager between €0.20 and €100 per spin to attempt the escape.
The symbols revisit the prisoner lineup covered in prison tattoos, with Ace at the top paying up to 3x the bet for 15 or more occurrences, followed by Loyalty, the bandana inmate, the big guy with long hair, and Lucky 7 offering up to 1.25x the bet at most. The object symbols are prison-themed — soap, vaseline, a shiv, handcuffs, and toilet paper — capable of paying between 0.50x and 1x the bet for 15 or more symbols. A Wild rounds things out and substitutes for all symbols except bonus ones.
The gameplay this time is built on Scatter Pays wins combined with a position multiplier system — it sounds hefty, and it is.
Scatter Pays
Payouts are awarded when 7 or more identical symbols land anywhere on the play area. Winning symbols are then removed and trigger a drop, allowing new symbols to take their place.
Multiplier Blocks
Each position on the reels has its own multiplier that applies to the win of the symbol occupying that square. The multiplier only increases when the position contributes to a win, is affected by Cell Search, or by xSplit. Each increase doubles the multiplier, up to a cap of x128 in the base game.
Enhancer Cells
At the top and bottom of each reel are locked Enhancer Cell positions that spin independently from the main play area. Once unlocked, they reveal a Prisoner symbol or any feature symbol except the bonus. Multiple special symbols can land there.
Cake Buster
Unlocks a locked position on the reel and reveals a Wild. If no locked positions remain, a random position is transformed into a Wild instead.
xWays
Transforms into a Prisoner symbol and reveals 2 to 4 identical symbols of the same type. When multiple xWays are present, they all reveal the same symbol.
xSplit
Doubles all Multiplier Block values on its reel, then transforms itself into a Prisoner symbol.
Yard Dealer
Randomly selects an object symbol on the reels and converts it into a higher-paying object symbol. Then transforms into a Prisoner symbol.
Cell Search
Only activates when there is no win. It collects the lowest-paying object symbol, assigns itself a multiplier for each symbol collected, then transforms into a Wild. The multiplier values on the collected positions are doubled.
On the bonus side, two modes compete for players' attention: the Sewer Escape Spins and the Manhunt Spins. The Bonus symbol can appear on reels 2 to 5, and landing one in the base game unlocks the Enhancer Cells on the corresponding reel.
Sewer Escape Spins
Landing 3 Bonus symbols triggers this mode. Before the spins begin, the Bonus Setup Mode determines the number of rounds — each +1 symbol that appears adds an extra spin, with a guaranteed minimum of 6 spins. All locked reels receive a random sticky multiplier of x2, x4, x8, or x16. Unlocked Enhancer states from the base game are preserved, Multiplier Block values do not reset between spins and are capped at x128. Unlocked positions remain unlocked for the entire duration of the bonus. Landing 2, 3, or 4 additional Bonus symbols awards +2, +3, or +4 spins respectively.
Manhunt Spins
Landing 4 Bonus symbols triggers this mode, which keeps all the Sewer Escape Spins mechanics with two key differences: Multiplier Block values are capped at x512, and Corner Enhancer Cells unlock when all locked positions on the reels of their respective corners are unlocked.
Nolimit Booster
Several options are available for an additional bet per spin:
- Bonus Booster: for 2.5x the bet, a minimum of one Bonus symbol is guaranteed.
- 2x Bonus Booster: for 10x the bet, a minimum of two Bonus symbols is guaranteed.
- 2x Bonus + Open x64 Booster: for 150x the bet, two Bonus symbols minimum are guaranteed and all unlocked positions start with an initial multiplier of x64.
- 2x Bonus + All x128 Booster: for 3,000x the bet, two Bonus symbols minimum are guaranteed and all reel positions start with an initial multiplier of x128.
Bonus Buy
For those who prefer to go straight to the point, three purchase options are available:
- For 100x the bet, access the Sewer Escape Spins directly.
- For 500x the bet, access the Manhunt Spins directly.
- For 300x the bet, try the Lucky Draw for a random chance at either bonus.
An escape worth 46,532x the bet!
San Quentin Manhunt extends the series by integrating the Scatter Pays system and grid multipliers — two mechanics that work well together and pair naturally with the Enhancer Cells. The shift to an aerial perspective offers some distance from what you felt in the earlier episodes, where you genuinely had the impression of sharing inmates' daily lives... though that change of angle could also divide fans of the originals. Some will miss the more direct, oppressive atmosphere that gave this prison hell its charm, especially since the win potential has also been scaled back compared to the 200,000x of the previous installment.
That said, 46,532x the bet is still a very solid number by today's standards, and the gameplay more than compensates with multipliers that can reach up to x512 in the Manhunt Spins. Series regulars will find their footing easily, while newcomers will discover a well-crafted title — less brutal in its atmosphere but still firmly rooted in the universe the studio has been building for years.
