Sizzling Hot 6 Extra Gold Slot - Novomatic

Wow, things are red hot in here! If you are after even more sizzle on screen, you have come to the right place... The Sizzling Hot 6 Extra Gold slot scorches its fruit on mobile and desktop alike, and serves up some nice surprises along the way.

Released in 2018, Sizzling Hot 6 Extra Gold comes from Greentube, the studio that handles the online versions for the Novomatic group. So this really is the Sizzling Hot of arcade cabinets, adapted and tweaked a touch for online demo play. The tweak in question is the Extra Bet, which adds a sixth reel so you can line up not 5 but 6 identical symbols and push wins up to 75,000x the bet. Switched off by default, it leaves you with much the same thing as the Sizzling Hot Deluxe version, which you can also try for free.

The layout of the 6 Extra Gold version will not come as a shock, far from it, since here too we have 5 reels, 3 rows and 5 fixed paylines, with a sixth reel that appears as soon as the Extra Bet is activated. The RTP is set at 95.09%, volatility is medium and, in the standard setup, you bet between 0.05 and 50 per spin; activate the Extra Bet and the total bet doubles automatically, which raises the ceiling to 100 per spin. For my test, I played at 1 a spin, so 2 once the sixth reel was switched on. Shall we see what that means for the payouts?

This is a fruit slot through and through: the cherries, lemon, plum and orange sit at the bottom of the paytable and pay from 4x to 40x the bet depending on whether you line up 3, 4 or 5 (the cherries even settle for 2 symbols to pay 1x the bet, and we will take it). Just above, the watermelon and grapes climb from 10x to 100x. The red 7 is the strongest, with wins from 20x to 1,000x and the distinctive trait of paying on adjacent positions. There is also the golden star, which plays the Scatter and pays anywhere on the reels, from 2x to 50x. With the Extra Bet and its sixth reel, every symbol gains one more tier (up to 6 of a kind), which sends the 7 to 3,000x and the star to 200x.

Do not expect a long list of features: this is a classic game built around the Extra Bet, and that is about it.

Extra Bet & sixth reel
Press the Extra Bet button and the sixth reel lights up. By default, it is already active, so you do not need to do anything to switch it on. The trade-off is that your total bet per spin is doubled, but in exchange two things change. First, combinations of 6 identical symbols become possible, with the highest wins on the paytable. Second, payouts are no longer made only from left to right but also from right to left, except for the Scatter, which pays anywhere in every case. Only the best win counts per pay direction, and a 6-symbol combination is paid only once. Stacking 7 combinations across all 5 lines and in both directions gives the best possible result.

The Gamble game
After any win, you can try to double it with Novomatic's Gamble game, which works the same way as ever: guess the colour, red or black, of the hidden card to double the win if you call it right and lose it if you call it wrong. You can go again up to 5 times in a row.

A classic reheated
Sizzling Hot 6 Extra Gold does not have much to impress you with, given its traditional features and its fruit. Compared with the original Sizzling Hot (the land-based classic, still played in huge numbers) and its online Deluxe spin-off, the only new thing is this sixth reel and its wins in both directions. It is not much, but it is fairly effective at raising the win potential while keeping things simple.

The RTP of 95.09% remains below current standards (around 96%), even if that is common across Greentube's retro catalogue. If fruit slots are your thing and you want the Sizzling Hot experience on 6 reels, then why not: give the game's free demo a try.
