Slot machine Divine Fortune Gold

It all started with Divine Fortune in 2017, a mythological world filled with legendary creatures and, above all, a gateway to a progressive jackpot. The Megaways version followed, then the Black edition, and the series now continues with the Divine Fortune Gold slot, released by NetEnt in April 2026, with slightly more modern mechanics and a fairly transparent tribute to the yellow metal.

It is clear straight away that the Swedish studio has not tried to shake up what gave the original its identity. We step into the same dark, mystical hall, with the same celestial choirs in the background and the large golden frame around the grid... even more golden than before, which for a Gold edition makes reasonable sense. The foundations are unchanged, no doubt deliberately, so as not to unsettle those who were already playing in 2017. A few details have changed all the same, such as the marble columns that a lion and a snake have been clinging to for quite some time, and above all the three jars on the right, bearing the likeness of the Minotaur, the Nemean lion and Medusa. Each one corresponds to a level of the Hold & Win bonus.

With an RTP of 96.63%, Divine Fortune Gold posts a figure that is fairly rare for a slot with a progressive jackpot, where a share of the stakes usually goes towards feeding the pot. The grid stays classic with 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines. Volatility is low, bets range from 0.10 to 500 per spin, and the max win is set at 1000x the bet, progressive jackpot aside.

The symbols draw on the Greek mythology of the series and pay from left to right on active lines. J, Q, K and A pay between 0.20x and 2x the bet for three to five matching symbols, followed by the Minotaur and the eagle at 0.50x to 4x the bet, the Nemean lion at 1x to 5x, and Medusa, which goes up to 10x for five symbols. The Wild takes the form of Pegasus and pays 50x the bet for five symbols, making it by far the best-paying symbol on the paytable.

As you can see, standard combinations do not carry the game very far, and that is not their job, because Divine Fortune Gold also relies on its value coins, the Cash Prizes, which land, are picked up by collectors and lead into three levels of bonus spins. There is in fact no Scatter and no free spins in the usual sense, as everything is triggered at random.

Expanding Wilds
Pegasus can appear anywhere during the base game. As soon as it hits the reels, it expands to cover its entire reel and substitutes for all symbols except Cash Prizes and the special Fortune Collector, Adder and Restart symbols.

Cash Prizes
Three types of coin can land anywhere on the grid, each with its own range of values:

- Bronze: 0.5x, 0.8x, 1x or 1.5x the bet
- Silver: from 2x to 4.5x the bet
- Gold: from 5x to 20x the bet

On their own, these coins pay nothing. They need someone to come and collect them.

Fortune Collector
The collector appears on the first and fifth reels. If it lands at the same time as Cash Prizes, it cashes in the value of every coin in view and adds it to the spin's winnings. And if two collectors turn up together, each one collects the full amount separately.

Bonus Spins
The bonus spins are triggered at random, either when a coin of a given colour appears in the base game, or when six Cash Prizes land at once, whatever their colour. The grid then switches to 5 reels and 5 rows, each position spins independently and only coins can appear. You start with 3 spins, each new coin locks in place and resets the counter to 3, and the coins already present in the base game stay where they are. A Hold & Win as classic as they come, then, except that the difference is made right at the end.

Bronze Spins
Triggered by a bronze coin. At the end of the bonus, before wins are calculated, the value of every coin on the grid is doubled.

Silver Spins
Triggered by a silver coin. This time, all coins move up one level at the end of the bonus: bronze becomes silver, silver becomes gold, and gold turns into a Mystery symbol.

Mystery symbols
Each Mystery symbol reveals one of the game's three special symbols at random. If there are several, their effects apply in this order:

- Fortune Collector: collects all the coins on the grid, then becomes a gold coin itself, worth the total value collected.
- Adder: adds a random value of 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x or 50x the bet to 3, 4, 5, 8 or 10 coins in play, before turning into a gold coin worth 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x or 50x the bet.
- Restart: relaunches the same bonus spins mode. It first turns into a gold coin worth 10x the bet, and all coins already in place stay put for the new series. It appears only once per game round, and the relaunched bonus does not grant the upgrade, the Adder or the Fortune Collector at the end.

Gold Spins
Triggered by a gold coin, this is obviously the best of the three modes since it combines the two previous effects. At the end of the bonus, all coins first move up one level, then their value is doubled.

Jackpots
Whatever the mode, the bonus ends when the counter reaches zero or when the grid is completely full. If one or more rows are complete at that point, an extra prize is added:

- 1 row: Mini, 15x the bet
- 2 rows: Midi, 50x the bet
- 3 rows: Maxi, 100x the bet
- 4 rows: Major, 250x the bet
- 5 rows: Mega, the progressive jackpot

The Mega is funded by 3.7% of players' stakes, 20% of which is set aside for the next pot. Once won, it restarts from 11,533.78 plus that reserve, with no cap.

Elevate
The Elevate button to the left of the grid lets you activate one option per game round:

- Bonus Hunt: for 1.5x the bet, increases the chances of triggering the bonus spins.
- Bronze Spins: for 50x the bet, guarantees at least one bronze coin and entry into the bonus.
- Silver Spins: for 150x the bet, same principle with a silver coin.
- Gold Spins: for 300x the bet, same principle with a gold coin.

Nine years on, the Mega is still doing the heavy lifting
Divine Fortune made its name in 2017 on the strength of its progressive jackpot. Its base game was already modest, but the promise of a five-figure pot was enough to keep the reels turning. Nine years and three spin-offs later, Divine Fortune Gold rests on exactly the same balance, except that NetEnt has brought the mechanics around it up to date.

Visually, not much has changed: the setting is the one from 2017 with an extra coat of gilding, and nobody will call it an overhaul, but the real work has gone into the bonus. Cash Prizes and Fortune Collectors already existed in the Black version, but there they felt like an add-on, whereas here they become the main engine, with a Hold & Win split into three levels whose effect is only revealed right at the end: doubling for bronze, a one-level upgrade for silver, both for gold. The idea is tidy, it creates a hierarchy without weighing down the rules, and it gives real meaning to the colour of the coin that triggered the mode. This kind of tiered bonus has of course been doing the rounds at rival studios for a good while, as has the feature buy that NetEnt includes here under the Elevate label, so the studio is late to the party, but it arrives in good shape.

Now for the part that stings... A potential of 1000x the bet excluding the jackpot, with a top regular symbol at 10x and low volatility, leaves little room for surprises. The fixed jackpots do not really make up for it, since filling an entire row pays 15x the bet, barely more than a single gold coin at 20x. Everything ambitious about the game therefore sits in the Mega, which requires filling all 25 positions on the bonus grid. The 96.63% RTP remains excellent for this category, but part of that figure is tied up in an event the vast majority of players will never see.

To sum up, Divine Fortune Gold is entirely comfortable with what it is: a low-stakes, low-volatility slot designed for long sessions and for those who keep one eye on the counter at the top of the screen. So, does that make you want to stay shut in a dark room with this mythological menagerie for company?
